wildlife at eco beach
Eco Beach Wilderness Retreat is host to an amazing range of wildlife, which you can see in the pristine surrounds of their natural habitat.
In particular, we have a number of very special seasonal visitors who migrate to Eco Beach every year, including flatback turtles, humpback whales, and a number of bird species. Check out our seasonal calendar to see when you can see these amazing creatures.
We are also fortunate enough to have a huge number of local bird species that can been seen at the Retreat year-round, including babblers, honey-eaters, bee-eaters, dollarbirds, shrikes, fairy wrens, finches, parrots, kestrels, sea eagles, ospreys, oyster catchers, plovers, curlews, boobies, terns, frigate birds and seagulls.
Wallabies are numerous around the retreat as are lizards such as sand goannas, frill necked lizards, blue tongues and many other species. If you are very lucky, you may catch a glimpse of the elusive bilby. These nocturnal burrowing marsupials have become increasingly rare in recent years but have been sighted around the retreat. Please report any sightings to staff.
